so last night i finished toni morrison's the bluest eye. an interesting book, though i must say that i enjoyed the afterword, written by her nearly 25 years after the book was first published, as much as i enjoyed the book itself. i'm not so sure i don't agree with her about the development being slow and the characters being fragmented. however, she had completely mastered her craft by the time she wrote beloved.
and that leads me to my next topic: what to do tonight. it's friday, and my plan is to jet over to the library as soon as i get off of work. i need to pick up another book. and i think it'll be fun to see all of the freaky loser types like myself who hang at the public library on a friday night. i am still not sure what book i am going to start for the weekend. maybe i'll get a quick read and a not-so-quick read.....like a nicholas sparks/tom robbins combo meal. hmm.
again, i am taking suggestions via email if you've got 'em.

word of the week: manifying.
what your perl module installer (CPAN for me) calls the process by which it converts all of your help info to man pages.

this is one of the pics we took while we were in reno over the holidays. it's at the "sno-park" just outside of donner lake. monkey's mom got me the jacket for christmas. she said she didn't want to lose me on the slopes. i think she's right. i don't think she can lose me!

went to the library last night...picked up toni morrison's the bluest eye. i've been wanting to read it for quite some time now. i was so excited to start my new book that i only ran 2 miles at the park last night before rushing home to curl up and read. got through the first 50 pages, and as usual, she holds my interest.
oh, and i've been thinking...i should send that other laptop back. seems as though weird things have been happening to me since i have had it. my paycheck was royally screwed up this month (about $1000 short), the power company didn't bill me, then double billed me, some music store in reno stole my debit card info and is randomly charging me for stuff i bought in november, and my sociology professor fudged my numbers to make me fail his class with a B-. life is just too weird right now....it's got to be that laptop. i have to send it back before something terrible happens. what a nightmare.
but on the bright side of things, it's a new year (what a start!) and anything can happen. hopefully the number of weird things will be minimal after i get this stuff sorted out. ok, i am off to rid my life of bizarre number errors. wish me luck!

this weekend seemed rather slow. perhaps it's because i really did not accomplish much of anything. what a waste. after finding out that i will not be finishing the grad program in may as i had hoped, and realizing that i have the entire spring semester to goof off, i was excited!
now i can read, scrap, go to the gym 5 times a week, and web out until my heart's content. ah, the life. now the question is - which book from my (ever-growing) reading list should i delve into first? hmm. perhaps i should post my top choices here.....
fast food nation
the bluest eye
the red tent
fierce invalids home from hot climates
the power elite
walden/civil disobedience
